St Peter’s and St Paul’s

... at the heart of our community

Junior Church

Teaching for children and young people if provided at the Sunday monring service at St Peter's. The whole church is together for about half an hour and then separate teaching and activities are provided for each age group as described below. During school holidays the whole church is together.

First Steps
First Steps is for our 0-3 year olds. Every week we have a theme such as "God gave us eyes". We play with the toys, sing a song when there are instruments to play so everyone can join in. A craft activity and a drink and a biscuit complete the fun.

Tinies
Tinies is for our 3-5 year olds. Every week we have a story from the Bible have time to talk about what we have been doing during the week. We sing some songs and say our prayers. Every week there is something to make and take home.

Splash
Splash is for school years 1 to 3. We now start building on our youngsters knowledge, not only of the Bible but of how we can be friends with Jesus. We share our space with the Xstream group and start each week joining with them in games, quizzes and chatting about the topic for that morning. We then spend time in our own group and normally have something to take away and share about what we have learnt.

Xstream
Xstream is for school years 4 to 6 and we share the start of each session with the Splash group generally doing something lively and fun. Once we are in our own group we look at the topic of the day and explore this using drama, craft work and discussion. Again we spend time looking at how we can be friends with Jesus and how to take this out into our own daily lives. This is further built on as both our groups and the Youth Group spend the first Sunday in the month exploring our faith through workshops which include drama, song, dance, dramatic writing, drawing and painting.

Youth
Sunday morning teaching for the 12 - 18 age range will vary. This is a transitional time and this is reflected in the activities. Teaching from one of the youth leaders together with lively discussion and games one week might be followed by staying in church to listen to the sermon. The young people are also encouraged to begin to help with some of the other Sunday morning ministries such as First Steps, Tinies, Xstream, serving tea and coffee or helping with the audio.
